Rhode Island is officially known as the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. It is a state in the New England region of the United States. Rhode Island borders Massachusetts to the north and east, Connecticut to the west, and, New York to the southwest. It is one of the smallest states in US.

Rhode Island is one of the most popular tourist destinations of the world, especially among art lovers. In the last few years, its popularity has increased manifold. So, if you are thinking on lines of making a visit to Rhode Island, it would not come as a surprise for me. Now, before you pack your bags and fly off to Rhode Islands, you should know about the major tourist attractions in Rhode Island. The following are some of the major attractions of this area:

1. Waterfire
Waterfire is by far the most important tourist attraction. In fact, it is the major reason for the growing popularity of Rhode Island as a tourist destination. So, while you fly off to Rhode Island, make sure you do it between the months of October and December. Check the schedules to see that you are witness to this brilliant spectacle.

2. Slater Mill Historic Site
This is one of the most important historic sites in the area. It used to be a great hub for cotton and textile manufacturing. In fact, it was a main factor, which changed the entire face of New England. It played a major role in the development of the region. You would still find many old machines in this area in proper working conditions.

3. John brown House
This is also a major tourist attraction of the area. The building houses a museum, which displays the prosperity of Post revolutionary prosperity, apart from a brilliant collection of art pieces. Hailed by John Quincy Adams, as the most magnificent mansion on the continent, the John Brown House is a place you can not simply miss, if you are in Rhode Island.

4. RISD Museum
Rhode Island School of Design or RISD is by far, one of the finest museums of the country.  With a collection of more than 80,000 objects, which includes precious paintings by well known artists, along with furniture, costumes and modern works of art, the RISD museum is a place you can not miss.

5. Roger Williams Park & Zoo
If you are a nature lover, then Rhode Island offers you an escapade in the cozy environs of nature in the form of Roger William Park and Zoo. Here, you can enjoy the vast areas of beautiful green lawns, lakes and copses. With plenty of amusement opportunities for grown ups as well as kids, this an excellent place for relaxation and winding up, while you take a break from your hectic life.

While in Rhode Islands, You can also go for a two hour down town walking trip to enjoy the locales of this beautiful place called Rhode Island; and once again- do not miss the Waterfire. It is truly magnificent.
